How does myShipTracking works?

Ais

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system used on ships for identifying and locating vessels to avoid collisions. Also port authorities use AIS to better control sea traffic.

Each vessel broadcasts its AIS messages via VHF channels (frequencies 161.975 MHz and 162.025 MHz) using a transceiver connected with a positioning system such as a GPS. Nearby vessels receive that signal and process it using special software

An AIS Message provides

  • GPS Location
  • SOG (Speed Over Ground)
  • COG (Course Over Ground)
  • Unique vessel ID
  • And voyage informations
